ADOPTING A TURTLE OR TORTOISE One of the main functions of San Diego Turtle & Tortoise Society is turtle and tortoise rescue from people who have found an injured animal or from people who no longer can care for an animal due to illness, age, financial issues, etc. Adoption or re-homing, is the other main function of the Society. The animals from rescue are adopted to good homes after receiving a clean bill of health from a veterinarian specializing in turtles and tortoises. In order to adopt from our Society, you must be a member, you must fill out the appropriate adoption request forms, and send photographs of your yard and enclosure. A Care Consultant will make an appointment to visit you and inspect your yard to ensure appropriateness and safety of your yard and enclosure for the turtle or tortoise species you plan to adopt. Adoption forms are available to download here:
Box Turtle & Water Turtle Adoption Forms will be posted to our web site shortly. In the meantime, please contact the Society via email adoptions@sdturtle.org , telephone or PO Box to request a form be sent to you. Other species are available less frequently, but please place your request and we will add you to the waiting list.
