RESCUES
AND ADOPTIONS Every month the SDTTS rescues
and adopts out numerous water turtles, land turtles, and tortoises.
The society is an all volunteer organization made up of a diverse group of
people interested in learning more about these wonderful creatures.

SDTTS MONTHLY MEETINGS
Our monthly Balboa Park meetings are free and open to the public. Guests
include noted veterinarians, conservationists, and turtle care specialists. Held
typically on the second Friday of each month, doors open at 7:00pm with
coffee, snacks, and a chance to meet other turtle and tortoise owners:

MEMBERSHIP
Memberships start at
$25 per year. By joining the Society, you support our mission of
rescuing, foster caring and adopting out animals. A strong membership
base empowers our volunteer efforts and helps us garner additional

BE PREPARED! Families should always be ready for emergencies. San Diego is subject to the threat of fires, mud slides, flash flooding and earthquakes. When you make your plans be sure to include preparations for moving your animals. Our family keeps some extra Rubbermaid tubs around for moving animals. THE SAN DIEGO ZOO IN LAS VEGAS uses tracking devices on Desert Tortoises: Read more
DESERT TORTOISE DNA TESTING has provided scientific evidence that Desert Tortoises should in fact be considered two separate species. For 150 years, since the species' discovery, it was believed that the Desert Tortoise is one species. The two species will now be designated Mohave Desert Tortoise (Calif-Nev-Utah) and Morafka Desert Tortoise (Ariz - Mexico.) To find out more: More info
