2009 SDTTS TURTLE AND TORTOISE SHOW AND PLANT SALE

Weekend show at Balboa Park on July 25-26

2009 SAN DIEGO COUNTY FAIR

Just in:  This video of fair animals from San Diego News Network (SDNN.com)

One of the featured animals:  SDTTS's "Lightning!"

Charming in his own way was Lightning, a captive-raised, California desert tortoise who’s about 40 years old. He served as goodwill ambassador for the San Diego Turtle & Tortoise Society, which adopts out about 100 of the animals each year.  “He’s the most personable tortoise,” said society president Ginny Stigen. “He’s a real people tortoise.” As she held him, you could almost imagine him smiling.

EARTH FAIR - BALBOA PARK

April 19th

Earth Fair in Balboa Park was attended by tens of thousands of people.

Our booth was manned by Jessica Niehoff, Rich Rinde and Gary Burrows -

all who fielded many questions, shared lots of turtle stories and generated

public interest to our Society. This event annually gives us the largest

exposure to the public.

EXCELLENT TURN-OUT FOR

3/28 DESERT TORTOISE SEMINAR

The March 28th SDTTS Desert Tortoise Seminar was a fantastic success.  Presentations were made by Michael Conner from the Western Watershed Project, Dr. Todd Driggers of the Phoenix Herpetological Society, and Don Williams from the California Turtle and Tortoise Club.  Desert Tortoises were on exhibit.  And there was a live demonstration of Desert Tortoise banding.

The turnout was excellent, with someone from the Elks Lodge reporting to me that there were over 140 in attendance.  The Poway Elks did an excellent job of serving a great lunch to all.

SAN DIEGO CENTER FOR CHILDREN

March 13th

to turtles/tortoises and fielded questions from the

30-35 students at the San Diego Center for Children.
